5 Etiquette You Can Put to Practice at Funeral Homes

Are you going to be attending funeral services at one of the funeral homes in your area? Check out etiquette tips you should remember while you’re in attendance.

Are you going to be attending funeral services at one of the funeral homes in Brea, CA, for the first time? Before you head down to the funeral home to celebrate a family member or friend’s life, there are some etiquette tips that you should keep in mind. They’ll help you avoid causing a scene at a funeral or doing something that could disturb the grieving family at the services you will be attending. Here are 5 etiquette tips you can use at funeral homes.

Wear something on the conservative side.

Men wore black suits to funerals for years, and women wore black dresses. Some men and women wear those things to funerals, but it’s no longer a requirement. You should, however, try to wear something that’s on the conservative side to funeral services. Darker-colored clothing that won’t stand out is your best option.

Arrive on time or, better yet, show up early.

You should show up on time for everything in life. But you need to do it when it comes to funeral services. You might interrupt services if you show up late for them. Do whatever it takes to arrive on time or early for funeral services. It’ll give you time to find a seat and get situated before services begin.

Speak softly and keep your cell phone on silent.

From the second you walk into a funeral home to attend services, you need to keep your voice down and speak only in hushed tones if you talk. You also need to avoid laughing, coughing too loud, or doing anything else that could be seen as disrespectful. You should also silence your cell phone or even shut it off to limit the noise you make.

Leave your kids at home if you don’t think they’ll behave.

If you’re attending funeral services for an immediate family member, bringing your kids along is usually a good idea. But if you’re unsure if they’re up for the challenge of behaving in a funeral home, you may want to reconsider. At the very least, you should sit your kids down and emphasize the importance of them being on their best behavior at a funeral home.

Stay off social media during the funeral services.

There are a lot of people who share their every move on social media these days. They’ll check in from work, school, restaurants, sporting events, and other places. Doing this in most areas is OK, but you shouldn’t do it at a funeral home. Stay off social media entirely during funeral services and resist the urge to put up posts or photos from a funeral.
