Betty Ann Covarrubias
July 8th, 1941 - December 27th, 2017
Betty Ann Covarrubias, age 76, was born in Montebello, CA, as Betty Ann Romero in a historic section formerly known as Simons Town. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Francis Romero, and younger sister to Alfred Romero. Betty attended Montebello Elementary School and Montebello High School where she met the love of her life, Antonio (Tony) Covarrubias. They would both often reminisce that it was love at first sight. Betty and Tony were united in marriage on July 13, 1957, and moved to Whittier, CA, to start their family. Together, they had four children, Robert (Bob), Corinne, Antonio (Tony), and Benjamin (Ben).
Betty was a devoted wife and a protective mother. She ruled the house with love and a spatula and was very proud of her family. Betty was excited to become Grandma to her eight grandchildren: Michael (Mike), Robert, Lisa, Aaron, Tyra, Benjamin, Danae, and Andre, and later a great-grandma to six more babies: Nicholas, Laila, Ryder, Kashlynn, Kekoa, and Ethan. Betty loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.
Betty had such a love for life. Most of Betty's joy came from watching her grandchildren play and throwing coins in the slot machine. Those who were touched by her admired the strength she embodied. People often said that Betty was the strongest woman they knew. Her gentle smile was contagious, reminding us of the preciousness of life. Betty and Tony were married for 60 blissful years, and truly embraced their vows, never leaving each other’s side. Surrounded by her family, Betty passed away on December 27, 2017, slowly slipping from our grasp and into the palm of your hand Lord...you are no longer in pain Mom, soar like the angel you are.
