Candace “Candy” Lee Brackett
June 23rd, 1956 - February 18th, 2020
Candace “Candy” Lee Brackett was born on June 23, 1956, in Buffalo, New York, to Dorothea Lee James and Garrett Bell James. Candy was Dorothea and Garrett’s youngest child, and only daughter, with her brothers Garry and Scott preceding her. Growing up in Garden Grove, California, Candy attended Rancho Alamitos High School where she was captain of the cheerleading team. After graduating high school in 1974, Candy attended University of Southern California where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1975. Candy graduated from USC in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts.
After briefly teaching special education, Candy discovered her lifelong passion when she transitioned to a career in event planning. It was in this role that she met her husband of over 30 years, Elmer Brackett. Together with her bother Garry, Candy and Elmer founded their own event company, James Event Productions, where Candy continued to grow a personal and professional community.
Candy and Elmer had two children together; Christopher James, born in February of 1990, and Catherine Lee, born in October of 1992. Christopher and Catherine were Candy’s pride and joy and she supported them wholeheartedly.
Not only was Candy always on-the-go professionally, but some of her favorite pastimes included exercising, running marathons, and snow and water skiing. Candy was also a big lover of animals, giving home to many.
Candy is survived by her husband; Elmer, her son and daughter-in-law; Christopher and Rebekah, and her daughter; Catherine.
Candy was a light to all who knew her and had a way of making everyone she met feel special. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
