Doris Ann Smith

March 28, 1924 — March 28, 2017

Tyne was born March 28, 1924 to Clinton and Ethel Hull. she grew up in Covina, CA and after her marriage to Don Smith, they lived on Balboa Island, had both their children in Costa Mesa, then moved to Tustin where she lived for more 60 years.

Tyne went to be with her Lord on her 93rd Birthday, after a fall at her beloved Irvine park on March 23, 2017. She walked there with a group of friends every morning and was the driving force in getting the group motivated every morning over the last 30 years or so! She was a collector of people of every age, and never met a stranger. After her husband Don passed away in 2007, she started hosting Happy Hour every afternoon - 1 hour of time to enjoy friendships and just be happy! She never knew how many would come, sometimes only 1 or 2, sometimes 15 or more on her front porch if the weather permitted, and inside if it didn’t! She always started preparing early in the afternoon so everything would be ready when it was time! Wine and cranberry juice were always available, but it was the friendships that she cherished the most and Happy Hour celebrated them! She was an accomplished oil artist, had several shows at the Tustin Senior Center, and participated in the Tustin Art Walk several times. She was married to the love of her life, Don Smith, for more than 60 years, and it warms our hearts that they are together with their Lord at last. She leaves behind 2 children, Randi (Wayne) Lansford of Idaho and Todd (Tawni) Smith who lived near her; four grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Lansford, Corey (Amber) Lansford, Summer (Jonny) McAdams, Tracey (Nikki) Smith; 4 great granddaughters, Taylor, Caton, Kyra and Ava; and 2 great grandsons, Tanner and Mason. She also leaves behind a special cousin Barbara, the Walking Group, the Happy Hour Group, extended family, and many neighbors and friends who became integral parts of her life. At Tyne’s request, there will be no formal service, but a memorial Happy Hour will be held at her home Saturday, April 1 at the usual time of 4:30 with an appetizer potluck to follow. Casual, no black please! In lieu of flowers, her children will be establishing a memorial at Irvine Park. Ask family for donation details.
