Hermina Joan DeZeeuw

February 11, 1932 – March 24, 2021

Hermina De Zeeuw a wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on March 24, 2021 in Artesia, CA.  Hermina was born February 11, 1932 on a farm in rural Boyden, Iowa. She was the youngest of 4 children and went to a one room schoolhouse for grades 1-9.

She married Lorraine De Zeeuw in 1951 and they were married 62 years until the passing of Lorraine in 2013. Together, they raised four children: Beverly, Dennis, Laura, and Duane. In 1954, they moved to California and lived in the cities of Artesia and Bellflower. On their mini farm-ranch, they raised parakeets, turkeys, rabbits, chickens, pheasants, Hereford calves, and boxer puppies. They also had a huge vegetable garden along with fruit trees and shared the bounty of these crops with church friends and neighbors.   Hermina’s life centered around her church, Christian faith, and her family.  In her earlier years she enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, preserving and canning fruits and vegetables along with caring for the animals on their property. She loved her ladies group from church, Martha’s Circle, and her volunteer work at Affordable Treasures. In her later years at ACH she loved the ceramics,  bingo, socializing, and crafts with neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lorraine, son Dennis, parents, Herbert and Johanna Wielenga, brother Lou Wielenga, and sisters Marynetta Bergsma and Delia Pals. She is survived by her children, Beverly (Eric) Ishimaru, Laura Conte, Duane (Jacquelyn) De Zeeuw. Grandchildren: Danielle (Mat) Beck, Heather (Brandon) Myers, Nicolette Conte, Andrew De Zeeuw.  Great Grandchildren: Bryce Beck, Jillian Beck, Brody Beck, Hudson Myers, London Myers, and Bishop Myers.
