Jeffrey D Samilton, Jr
March 3rd, 1986 - May 29th, 2019
Jeffrey David Samilton Jr. was born on March 3, 1986 at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, CA (So Cal) on an unseasonably warm day to Jeffrey Samilton Sr. and Johanna Zuur. He was their only child, but from the beginning he was surrounded by the love of his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and of course his parents. He grew up with his Dutch grandparents (Oma & Opa) who taught him to speak a little Dutch and to march straight to the sink to wash hands after a meal (or any time Opa deemed washing hands was necessary!).
Jeffrey spent his early years at St Anne Montessori in Glendale, La Canada Elementary and La Canada High School excelling in writing and history. He especially enjoyed his AP classes in those subjects. In middle school Jeffrey learned to play the saxophone and played for the school marching band as well as the jazz band. Early on he had a love for basketball and was a loyal Lakers fan. He began playing organized basketball at age 11. He played basketball for his high school's JV and Varsity teams. Jeffrey was known for his playful spirit, generous heart and that beautiful smile. His engaging personality charmed all those he met.
Over the years, Jeffrey acquired a love for cooking and attended the International Culinary School in Santa Monica and Atlanta after attending Pasadena City College. He loved cooking for his dad who enjoyed taking leftovers to work. His signature dish was chicken piccata but he loved eating chicken parmigiana, bbq baby back ribs and wings.
Jeffrey worked as a personal trainer at his dad's fitness center, The Health Factor, for 10 years. He also used his culinary skills at The Health Factor by offering special meals-to-go on Saturdays and provided catering for many of his clients.
Jeffrey loved the beach, Disneyland, Lakers games and all things Southern California. He spent a lot of time with his Aunts Gabriella, Sandra and Vernie and with cousins Stephanie, Chris, Jack, Kate, Alex and Julianna at the beach, swimming, Disneyland and Universal Studios.
Jeffrey is survived by his mother, father, grandmother (Anna Zuur) and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jeffrey will be missed greatly but he lives forever in our hearts. Jeffrey accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at age 16 and was baptized at Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene. We find peace in knowing he is with our Lord in Heaven and one day we will be reunited.
