Lyle Kenneth Sutton

April 17th, 1922 - July 27th, 2017

Lyle Sutton was born at home outside of St. Francis, Kansas, on April 17, 1922. As a young child Lye moved to his grandparents' farm and later to the town of Wray, Colorado. Lyle was the middle child of three with an older brother, Marquis, and younger sister, Lela; Lyle totally fit the concept of Middle Child Syndrome.

After graduating High School in 1940, Lyle came to California and attended Pasadena Nazarene College. At the beginning of his sophomore year Pearl Harbor was attacked so Lyle enlisted in the US Navy. Lyle's unit was attached to a Marine Unit where he served as a Navy Corpsman during WWII. Later, being part of the Navy Reserve, Lyle served again on a hospital ship during the Korean War.

When Lyle was stationed in El Centro, California, he would attend the local Church of the Nazarene. Service men that attended church were always invited to stay for a home cooked meal; this is where Lyle met his future wife, Donna. Lyle and Donna wrote to each other while he was overseas and they were engaged and married on April 26, 1946 (71 years ago!).

After they were married, Lyle and Donna moved to the Basset/El Monte area; there, Lyle started working for Security Bank. Lyle's talent was in the area of operations and he worked at a number of branches during his 40 years at the bank; He retired as Vice President of Operations.

Lyle and Donna added two children to the family; a daughter, Ferrel, in 1953 and a son, Randall, in 1956. The Sutton family outgrew their little home they built, therefore they moved into a new home in Hacienda Heights in 1960 where they lived for over 50 years.

Lyle's family continued to grow and he enjoyed having his 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren visit and was always curious about what they were up to.

Church was always a big part of Lyle's life and he served many years as a church board member. Lyle also served as the church treasurer and Sunday School teacher for 6th grade boys. After retiring from the bank, Lyle spent many hours volunteering on church projects such as Casa Robles, Twin Wells Indian Mission, and Work & Witness teams, to name a few.

Lyle enjoyed gardening and planted a long row of roses for Donna so she could have all the flowers she wanted in the house. Lyle also had a large fruit and vegetable garden, from which jam, pickles, green beans, and tomatoes were canned. There was always enough to share, especially the famous Boysenberry Pie that was always part of the annual pie auction.

We will miss you.

Love: Donna, Ferrel, Terry, Randy, Brad, Amber, Erik, Matthew, Heather, Nathan and Olivia
