Michael Dunne

​Michael Dunne, 71, of La Mirada, CA, passed away December 12, 2019 in his home.

Michael was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 15, 1948, son of Patrick Dunne and Helen Dunne. He graduated from Hicksville High School in 1966. Michael enlisted in the the Air Force that same year and was selected for training at The Defense Language Institute of Monterey in California. While there he attended a concert and witnessed Jimi Hendrix doing “crazy things” with a guitar. He served 2 tours in Vietnam as a Voice Intercept Procedure Specialist and Air Intelligence Ops Specialist and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant through his military career.

After his tours, Michael used his business acumen and language skills working for Parker Pens in both Japan and Taiwan where he met his wife, Shu-Hui Dunne, of 42 years. Moving back to the states he worked for AAR Allen Aircraft Hardware for several years. Taking his years of experience in Information Technology he continued consulting for many companies until he retired. Retirement did not phase him as he took on a new goal in life, helping his fellow Veterans. Michael volunteered as a National Service Officer at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs office, where he helped and fought for many veterans to get the benefits that they deserved. He worked closely with other vets in the Vet2Vet group meetings and encouraged them to keep connected, open up to each other and let them know they are not alone.

Michael had many hobbies throughout his life included surfing, playing guitar, gaming at casinos and shooting on the range. In his last few years Michael enjoyed road trips with his wife, to see the sites around the country and find those out of the way Indian casinos.

Michael is survived by his mother, Helen Dunne, his siblings, Patrick J. Dunne, Elizabeth De Rosa, and Marie Novy, his wife and son, Shu-Hui Dunne and Jeames Dunne, and his daughter and grandson, Eileen Lee and Evan Lee.
